Kristen Anne Bell (born July 18, 1980) is an American actress. Although her first film role was an uncredited appearance in Polish Wedding, Bell previously acted in stage and musical productions. In 2001, she made her Broadway debut as Becky Thatcher in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. After re-locating to Los Angeles, Bell landed various television guest appearances and small film parts, before she gained fame as the title role on the critically acclaimed television series, Veronica Mars from September 2004 to May 2007.
The teen noir series Veronica Mars wilted in the ratings, but its star Kristen Bell left the canceled show with a fanatic cult following and a heroic career rebound.
The Detroit native dropped out of New York University’s prestigious Tish School to pursue stage roles with Laura Linney and Liam Neeson on Broadway. She soon moved to L.A. and within weeks landed guest appearances on The Shield and HBO’s Deadwood before her star-making turn as the witty and spunky teen detective on Mars. Though the series ended after three seasons, Bell didn’t miss a beat: she moved onto NBC’s Heroes, narrated Gossip Girl, starred in the hit comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and landed on People’s Most Beautiful list.
